Nicosia, 11 – 14 July 2016 – representatives of the South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) travelled to Cyprus to have a working visit upon invitation of the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus.

The voice of business for SME skills

Many EU policy documents stress the SME’s as an economic priority, and as such the focus has been placed on fostering the competitiveness of SMEs by improving the competences of SME’s human capital. The education and training system, which plays a crucial role in strengthening the competences of SME’s human capital, should remain flexible and respond accurately to the demands of the labour market. The discrepancy between the expressed needs for training and the training provision offered in the market and the lack of data on SME’s training needs should be addressed through systematic training needs analysis (TNA).

Growing Together - Young Entrepreneurs Workshop

Zagreb, Croatia - Young Entrepreneurs Workshop was held in period from 25 -26 April 2013 in Zagreb. The workshop gathered 30 young entrepreneurs from the SEE countries and neighbouring EU Member states to discuss regional cooperation, entrepreneurship, trade and business opportunities. Mr Neven Mimica named as Commissioner-designate for consumer protection

Mr Neven Mimica has today been named by Croatia as Commissioner-designate. President Barroso has met with Mr Mimica and has confirmed his agreement for Mr Mimica's candidacy. President Barroso has indicated his intention to assign to Mr Mimica the portfolio of consumer protection. After the necessary consultation of the European Parliament, the Council will appoint, by common accord with the President of the Commission, the new Commissioner, so as to allow him to take up his post on the 1st July 2013.

SEECEL's publication: School Professional Toolkit

Zagreb, Croatia – SEECEL has developed and published a School Professional Toolkit publication. The preparation of a robust and comprehensive entrepreneurial infrastructure is essential for the development of entrepreneurship in any society. Teachers and schools have been recognized as key agents in the entrepreneurial infrastructural chain which leads from entrepreneurial schools towards an entrepreneurially literate society. In 2010, SEECEL began structured cooperation of eight EU preaccession countries for the development of a common Entrepreneurial Learning: a Key Competence Approach (ELKCA) instrument. This publication presents the results of the strategic piloting of the ELKCA instrument in 31 schools in eight countries during the school year 2011/2012.

EU promotes entrepreneurship education

Entrepreneurial education and training to support growth and business creation is one of three key areas identified for immediate intervention by the European Commission's Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan. Bruxelles, Belgium - Thematic Working Group in Entrepreneurship Education was set up in December 2011 to advance uptake and improve the quality of national policy approaches to entrepreneurship education. Initial meeting of Entrepreneurial Learning - Data and Indicators expert group

Bruxelles, Belgium - entrepreneurial learning encourages an entrepreneurial mindset in the society, the growth of new businesses and more efficient use of creative potential and existing knowledge and skills. As such, entrepreneurial learning is a policy priority of the European Union and EU pre-accession countries, as well as a growing and developing field in today’s learning and education context. The European Commission is developing indicators in order to follow up on full implementation of above mentioned policy.
